Why do I procrastinate?!?

Hmm, Procrastination- A word everyone of us is familiar with. Those who don't know what the word means (though that's just a thought carrying almost negligible weight), it is the HABIT, not act, of postponing urgent tasks so that one can enjoy/relish the moment at present. Yes, you got it right, the act of not doing the things in time you are supposed to do and whiling away your PRECIOUS time in doing petty things which hold no importance (you soon come to realize that), the thought of doing things at a later time, the act of regretting for not completing your work in time- All are SYMPTOMS of  procrastination. Now don't panic hearing the word 'Symptoms', as Procrastination is not a deadly disease. It is not going to affect your body but mind. To be true, It is nothing short of from becoming a killer disease, if not cured timely. If you keep on continuing the practice, you'll soon be depressed, and depression, you know, gives birth to so many diseases, which I can't write here as I don't know their names. Need I say what happens when you catch diseases?

Now, the question which I started the blog with- Why do I (read: we, for it's not only me who does so. Admit it!) procrastinate? Believe me, you too find yourself surrounded with this question frequently, if you are a procrastinator like me. The answer lies in our PRIORITIES. We humans, being the most intelligent species on earth, are provided with the unlimited power to think, the power to imagine, and the power to act. And because of these, we are able to prioritize our tasks. Everything goes fine till we prioritize according to our actual needs. We do in time what we are supposed to do, we maintain a routine, we are disciplined. The problem starts when we change our priorities, the reasons being so many, for example, the urge to enjoying the moment we have at hand with our loved ones, the simple need to take a break from our quotidian work, or our complacency that if we don't do, or do it later, it will not affect us much. However, this is not the actual reason, for, taking a break, making yourself easy and relaxed is not a crime. The actual problem starts when we get habitual of taking long breaks, enjoying too much, and lacking farsightedness. They say, excess of anything is bad, and that's hundred percent true here too. You start enjoying too much, start wasting your time, and then regret. You see, this is a vicious cycle. You don't realize that what you are doing is not good, and when you realize, it's too late.

So, It's totally up to us to give up the deadly habit. The sooner, the better. It is not easy to give up, you will need a strong willpower, but then, it is not impossible too. One can always be hopeful, and get rid of this. I too have started saying no to procrastination with this post, as I always kept on postponing writing something. If I can do, you can do too. Wishing you the best.
